| Peter Schiff Award |
| PURPOSE: |
The aim of the award is to recognize and foster
significant contributions to transfusion medicine through efforts
in one or more of the following areas:
- Research into the nature and roles of blood products.
- Education of the medical community and special interest groups
in the field of transfusion medicine
- Encouraging and promoting the importance of blood and plasma
donation and their appropriate clinical use leading to better
healthcare in Australia or New Zealand.
Nominations are being sought from members of a person from a cross
section of the healthcare community for exemplary work that has
been carried out in Australia or New Zealand. Nominations must come
from a proposer and seconder with letters of support from both.
The proposer and/or seconder must be members of the Society. |

| CSL Bioplasma Overseas
Travel Grant |
| PURPOSE: |
To fund visits to overseas laboratories in order to
learn new techniques or gain experience; attendance at overseas scientific
meetings or courses. If, for the purpose of attending a scientific
meeting, it would be expected that the applicant would have submitted
an abstract then evidence of the abstract should be submitted with
the application. |

The Grant is advertised in May each year and applications
close early in August. Successful applicants are advised by the end
of August. The award is taken up within
12 months of the closing date for applications.

| ANZSBT Research Fund |
| PURPOSE: |
To contribute to the advancement of research in transfusion
medicine and science in Australasia and to promote and develop research
in related medical knowledge and science. |
| VALUE: |
In 2008 Council will award a single grant of $45,000
or 3 smaller grants of $15,000 each. |
| SCOPE: |
The Council has nominated the following priority
area for 2008:
Research to support Transfusion Medicine Clinical Practice
Improvement
The grants are intended for those researchers who have not received
any large funding from other sources for the same project. Funding
is available for research projects. Applications that seek funding
to provide service delivery are unlikely to be funded.
Applicants do not need to be an ANZSBT member. |
| ELIGIBILITY: |
People involved in research in transfusion medicine
and science undertaken in Australia and New Zealand. An applicant
does not need to be an ANZSBT member |
| PROCESS: |
The Research Committee shall evaluate the merits of
research programs and decide how the research funds will be spent
and ensure that the research is of a scientific nature and that it
is or may prove of value to Australia and New Zealand. |
| CRITERIA: |
Four key criteria on which the assessment will be
based are:
- Significance of the project and value of the potential outcomes
- Quality of the research plan
- Feasibility of the project including timeframe
- Track record of the applicant(s)
|
| CONDITIONS: |
Successful applicants must agree to abide by the
conditions of the grant. Conditions include:
- A written progress report is required by July (half to one
A4 page) and a final report by February of the next year (one
page plus a list of any publications and presentations resulting
from the work).
- Researchers must agree to publish their results in the scientific
or technical press
- Researchers undertake to make available for general use licences
for Australian patents issued in the course of this research.

| Presidential Symposium
Award |
| PURPOSE: |
This prestigious award is to recognise the best oral
presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting by a Society member.
This will be judged on the quality and originality of the work and
the presentation. |

| APPLICATION:

Applications will be called for in the Registration
Brochure of the Annual Meeting with the closing date the same as the
abstract submission. Applicants are advised of the grant at least
4 weeks before the meeting.

| ANZSBT Travel Grant
to the ASM |
| PURPOSE: |
To assist members with attendance at annual scientific
meetings. Applicants must have submitted an abstract for the meeting.

Applications will be called for in the Registration

| Asian/Pacific Islands
Travel Award |
| PURPOSE: |
To assist a person from East Asia or the Pacific Island
nations to attend the HSANZ/ANZSBT/ASTH Annual Scientific Meeting.
This award is open to any person who is actively working in any area
of blood transfusion (medial, scientific, nursing, administration)
who resides in East Asia or the Pacific Island nations. |

Up to AUD2,000 |

At the ANZSBT Annual Scientific Meeting. |
| APPLICATION: |
The Award is advertised in June each year and applications
close early in August. Successful applicants are advised by the
end of August.

| RCPA Quality Assurance
Programs (QAP) Awards |
| PURPOSE: |
As part of the commitment to ensuring and improving
laboratory quality, the Directors of the QAP are offering two awards
in 2009 for projects on any aspect of laboratory quality:
- Research
Award
- Medical Travelling Fellowship |
| VALUE: |
Research Award: up to $50,000
Medical Travelling Fellowship: up to $80,000 |
