Transfusion Medicine Scientist with the Australian
Red Cross Blood Service in Sydney . Originally trained as a Biomedical
Scientist in the UK , attaining ‘Fellowship of the Institute of
Biomedical Science ', with a total of 29 years experience working
in national transfusion services and hospital transfusion laboratories
in the United Kingdom , New Zealand and Australia . Prior to moving
to Australia was involved in the development, implementation and
administration of the New Zealand ‘National Haemovigilance Programme',
representing NZ on the ‘European Haemovigilance Network' and invited
to present data from the programme at various meetings including
ANZSBT ASM [2005, 2006, 2007], ISBT Scientific Congress [2006],
NZIMLS/AIMS ‘South Pacific Congress' [2006]. Main areas of interest
include haemovigilance and error prevention especially specimen
labelling errors, hospital blood product inventory modelling and
the interaction between blood services and customer hospitals or
laboratories. A member of ANZSBT, and actively contributing as a
member of the ‘Scientific Subcommittee' and since March 2007 the
‘Transfusion Science Committee'. Recipient of the ANZSBT ‘Presidential
Award' [2006]. Believe my experience to date and commitment to the
ANZSBT through committee membership would allow me to make a valuable
contribution to Council.
